Yes, Japanese maples (acers) grow very well in the UK. They prefer sheltered spots with partial shade and thrive in moist, well-drained soil. Their compact size also makes them suitable for gardens of all shapes and sizes.

Pruning is rarely required. If needed, prune lightly in late summer or mid-winter to maintain shape. Avoid heavy pruning as it can spoil their natural form.

You can order potted trees anytime, but for bare root options are only available from late autumn to late spring. It's always best to plant in colder months as this will allow the tree to fully develop its root system before the summer heat, but this is not mandatory for potted trees.

Our trees are packaged by the nursery in bespoke boxes with airholes to ensure they do not suffocate on the way to your door. In addition, we use specialist couriers that ship quickly, we aim for no more than 24 hours from the ground to your doorstep.

Yes, it'd be a challenge to delivery nursery fresh trees otherwise! All our trees are sent from in our UK nursery located in the South Downs. Not all our trees start life in the UK but those imported such as Japanese Maple are sent to our UK nursery to acclimatise to the British weather before being sent on to you. This ensures the plant is properly settled into the climate.

Choosing the right planter size is important for plant health. Generally, you’ll want a planter that’s 1–2 inches larger in diameter than your plant’s root ball for smaller plants, and 2–4 inches larger for larger plants. This provides enough room for growth without too much excess soil.

All our plants are lovingly packaged by our partner nursery and are sent with a specialist courier to ensure freshness. Please note that for bare root trees the plant will not have much greenery, as they are dug out of the earth in autumn and winter, but rest assured that if you put it in the planter with a bit of love and care it will spring to life in no time.
